Joan intermittently volunteers her time at the International Association for Premenstrual Disorders, Vicious Cycle: Making PMDD Visible and MeVPMDD because she is passionate about women's reproductive, hormonal & mental health, as well as enhancing PMDD Awareness to those who suffer from this rare, hormone-based, life-threatening genetic disorder.
Prior to her current roles, Joan worked as the Head of Digital and a Freelance Book Cover Designer for a British publisher that produces books in a variety of subject areas including those in association with the Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum, Museum of London and the National Trust to name a few, worked on additional and various projects as a UI/UX Designer, was the Head of the Library, Archive, Information and Knowledge Management at the Royal Society of Arts in London, England, the Interim Museum Director & Heritage Manager at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum in Bournemouth, England and was also based in Los Angeles, California as a Director of Information & Library Services for 80 employees dispersed throughout Fortune 500 library and information centers throughout the United States.
She holds a Masters in Library & Information Science and a BFA in Art History. In between acquiring these two degrees, Joan had the opportunity to teach English as a Second Language in Mažeikiai, Lithuania for a year after backpacking around 15 countries in Europe for several months.
After living in England for half a decade, Joan returned to America with her husband, Peter. With much deliberation, Joan declined employment offered to her by the founder of Etsy during its infancy in Brooklyn, to return to her hometown in upstate New York to be closer to family and start one of her own. During her downtime, Joan tries her hand at photography and loves teaching her daughters how to bake & cook with ingredients from their own herb garden and their local CSA, Wild Hill Farm. She continues to slowly damage her ears by turning the volume up to eleven while listening to her most-recent playlist including Wolf Alice, Slaves, Dream Wife, Courtney Barnett, Kurt Vile, Cherry Glazzer, Brody Dalle, LCD Soundsystem, Led Zeppelin and Radiohead while rehabbing her mid-century house in a tiny village that Joan, Peter, their daughters, and rescue Yorkie from Puerto Rico named Nigel call home.
